There’ve been a fair number of responses to the article on The Register; see the letters page for 6th May to read more about the distain felt. I think some of the angst is misguided, and anything which improves on the current situation of AT is welcome; however, the RNID and RNIB thrive on paid-for services, and can only exist as a result of them (I speculate) – the issue of English as being a second language for some deaf users can be a large one, and an open-source solution would be just fantastic.
