Even though this solo is long and fairly difficult I can say I'm enjoying learning it the most out of any GPG track lately :D I'm also still only at around 110bpm lol. Methinks I may be recording at a shade under full speed ;)

TBH, I think I also enjoyed this the most. Especially the chorus was so damn brilliant. And I liked working on the solo as well, since I actually saw some progress there all the time. Up to a certain point, at least. I also thought about recording at a slower speed. The thing is, I'd already recorded everything else at full speed when I realised that the solo was a bit too fast for me, and that the sweeps were completely out of my league. So I ended up fumbling through it as well as I could. I know it would be better to play as well as you can cleanly, but I do think it's good to try to push a little bit too hard, as long as you always remember to go back to playing cleanly, so that you don't learn any bad habits. That's what I usually do. Though, like in this one, I usually end up recording it above my abilities. When I started pushing myself with this solo I found that I also progressed in playing it cleanly, that way I eventually managed to nail it cleanly at 124-126 bpm. That did take two days of very very intense practice. That's where I hit a brick wall, though. :?

I was about the same ...at about 128 bpm I could nail it near enough perfect but any faster and the sloppyness comes in  having said that since I recorded mine I have been playing the solo quite a bit as I have it in my memory and can play it cleanly 9 times out of 10 at about 135 so I reckon a bit more praccy and I'd have it nailed :)

I would say I enjoyed learning this song second best ..but Tornado of Souls has been my favorite GPG track just cos I was so chuffed with learning the solo ,which when I first started I never thought I would -after learning that, It has given me quite a boost of confidense that makes other solo's seem slightly less daunting :)

I have found since I have used my secret device  for sorting my memory out ,my soloing has improved as I can actually remember the dam solo,s .....I knew my brain used to absorb knowledge so it was just a case of re educating it .....To me it has been noticable for the last 2 GPG tracks as these 2 solo,s are imprinted pretty much into my brain whereas I can honestly say I cant remember any other solo,s we,ve played

SECRET I was just browsing amazon a while agao and I know I have a problem with my memory but worked on the principle that I used to be able to leanr songs well so I think it's just the fact I dont use my brain much at work etc ..

I used this CD every day for about a week and couldnt believe the difference ..I woke up every morning and could remeber all that I was meant to do etc ...and in general felt more relaxed and positive ...I really should probabaly now listen once a week ..but it's one of the best £10 I have ever spent....I might get the self confidense one as I do tend to be quite shy ...

I think you have to believe a bit that it will work but I really can see the difference in remebering solo,s and side 2 improves concentration ..I find in stuff like online gaming my attention doesnt wander as much ,same as Guitar practise :)

And nope I,m not Glenn Harrold and I dont work for him

I must say, I'm a little bit tempted. I might give it a shot if I can scrape together some cash. That and the Motivation one :)

My sister bought the "Unleash your true potential" and instead of moping around as she,s just taken redundancy she has been zipping around applying for jobs etc and now is aiming for Jobs that she might not have been confident enough to apply for etc ! ....she was a bit sceptical but thought it was worth a shot ...

I think part of the appeal of the CD,s is for each side you relax for 30 minutes and do nothing (IE you are thinking of nothing ..I tend to picture a black wall then find I close my mind) ,whereas In my normal day I'm always doing something or asleep...Quite often I fall asleep while listening but you still are conscious enough it seems to absorb what he says ...

I should be on commision

I sort of think it might also be what I need. I know I'm reading everything I should for my exams, I'm just having memory problems. Of course, who wouldn't? My next exam for example is just over 3000 pages long, so it's not exactly a piece of cake. :? That CD could be my thing. And possibly something for concentration. help me study long hours efficiently, or rather avoid studying long hours.

Only two bars of solo left to learn and get up to a reasonable speed.

How's it going Darren?

I've just got the decending part of the solo to learn (starting at 19 on the high e). I'll be using an alternative fingering where i can. I then have to record the second half of the song.

As a side note. I pulled out my PRS to learn the solo the other day (as it has 24 frets). You cannot believe how fantasitc it felt after playing the Epi Les Paul exclusively for a whole week. Talk about another world. It just goes to show how people take some things for granted.

nm, worked it out. Some blog linked directly through to this thread from a WMP image of him playing it, meaning we get nearly 8000 hits into the GPG forum, and bitboy (who hosted the media file) gets his site shut down for bandwidth excess!

Hey! You're welcome to jump aboard if you feel like it. The idea is that we take turns in choosing a song, then we all make a recording of as much as possible of that song and submit that for public scrutiny. The critique given is without exception constructive. We tried to pick a new song every week, then it became every two weeks, nowadays we basically pick a new song as soon as everybody's done theirs. There's currently 4 active guys here, so its pretty flexible. This is in fact the current, latest choice, so feel free to submit your version of the song any time you feel like it, or join in on the next choice, if you feel like it. We've actually been talking about getting more people involved, since its nice to have some variety.

Anyway, all you really need is a guitar (or other preferred instrument), recording hardware and software, and some web space to host your files in.

The order we're going in about choosing new songs is in the "The Guitar Playing Group - Introduction & Rota" thread. As it is now, with the active members involved, the order is basically Bigpops, IceBus, Wolf, me.

We really should update that rota anyway.

Epätodellista! (Pidetään kuitenki englanniks ettei muut vittuunnu) I'm in Helsinki. Been playing for (damn! That long?) 5 years. First three years mainly acoustic and solely fingerstyle. The time I've been involved in the GPG I've been playing mostly electric and mostly with a pick. That would make it almost two years since I first tried a plectrum.

Oh yeah, I have two acoustics, one Landola steel string and one Chorus nylon string. One electric, weird brand called Vester. Been looking into getting a new one, haven't made up my mind yet.

Hey Jem :D Pleased to have you aboard man. We've been hoping to pick up some new members for a while now, but after trolling most major music forums it was hard to know where else to look :D

I'm playing a Fender American Strat, Wesley knockoff Strat (see the My New Guitar thread) and an Eko acoustic :)

Yeah, it's no fun at all to change from fingerstyle to a pick. It took me about a year to learn to hold the pick properly and get used to playing that way. Only then I started really learning. I think it's really worthwhile to know both techniques, but it's tough learning both.

I think we're waiting for 2 more entries in this one. We might already move on to the next one this weekend.

Welcome to the GPG family Jem :D ....It's cool to have someone new .

I,ve been playing on and off for years  I got to a pretty good level then buggered my hand up and didnt play for about 4 years ....I then almost had to leanr to play again ...which was about 2 or so years ago ....I'm slowly getting better but wont ever be a fluid as I was ,but hey at least I can play and still love it :)

I've always played with a plectrum so am crap at fingerstyle ,picky type stuff ..I prefer chunky riffs and doodling

Wolf, I remember we talked about Tokais etc. a while back. I've been browsing the net about Tokais and Corts, and I'm going to go try some out today or on Monday. I'm a poor student so I really don't think I'll be able to afford the guitars I'd really want anytime soon so I'll try to find the best guitar I can afford. I'm reasoning that a high end cheaper brand guitar might be better than the low end more expensive brand guitars. (Alos, I'm reasoning that just about anything will be better than what I've got now :bg: ) Also, I've heard considerable praise especially about Tokais for having a good price / quality rate. And Corts too, but not to the same extent. I've really been talking about getting a new guitar for longer than I talked about recording my singing, so I guess its high time I make good on all that talk as well. Take the bull by the horns as they say. I'm thinking since I'm starting my summer job in June, I might get a new guitar with my first paycheck. I should be able to afford something around 600-800€ or 350-500£. So, I'll be trying as many as possible before that.

Bigpops: I happened to read in the older threads that you've maidenized your strat. Could you tell me more? Did you just put in a floyd, or have you changed other things as well? Did you do it yourself or at a shop? And most importantly, have you been satisfied with the results? Thing is, I've quite taken a fancy to a floyd trem. Now that I'm looking at Tokais I'm thinking a Les Paul would be cool, but they supposedly make rather decent strats as well. I'm thinking if I end up getting one of those, putting in a floyd rose might not be a bad idea. Don't know what the pickups are like yet, but those may need changing as well, if that's the way I'm going to go.

Both Cort and Tokai get fairly high praise....I reckon Tokai must be pretty damn good considering Gibson made it very very hard for them to be imported into the US .Since they see them I suppose as real oposition :)

You might be better off looking for a floyd equpied strat ..the (Mexi) Richie Sambora model always looked cool to me,or the straight floyd model..

I keep umming and arring about guitars ...but have at this present time decided to leave it :)
