20 years ago thin clients and powerful servers were the future. 15 years ago they were pretty much dismissed as a gimmick. Though now web based apps are becoming more and more popular. We went through a crazy period of megahertz, gigahertz , megabytes and gigabytes. As soon as you bought a computer it was obsolete. Gamers had to have this months card or their FPS didn't cut it.
What happened? When did it happen? Who gives a stuff or even knows the clock speed of their processor now? RAM is so cheap that you might as well have 4 gig or 8 gig if your motherboard will take it. Does anyone play demanding games on their PC anymore? I have no idea as I have worked with computers so long I have no interest in them really except as web browsers and audio/video delivery mediums.
It seems to me now that colour and style rank at the top of important factors when buying a new PC now and 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a laptop anyway. I mean what's the point in a desktop unless you're a designer or coder?! Even if you are you just hook up to a docking station right?
Where's it going next? Can you imagine using a PC offline now?
