Note of interest: there is much cool stuff happening at jamendo.com, and I am pleased that this is so. Many bands releasing albums under Creative Commons licenses, meaning legal and free downloading of their music for your pleasure. Be experimental, try the world music section for once. It ain't quite Fela Kuti, but.... maybe that's good.
