Wireless

Post by Hanohtep »

How do I go about setting up a wireless network?

I'n only got one PC but I've got a new PSP that can connect through a WLAN to the internet, and I'm saving up to get an Xbox360 and that can do the same (with a wireless plugin thingy).

Do I just need a wireless hub/router/thing?

Yup and a wireless network PCI card for you Computer, unless you're putting the router next to it then you just need an ethernet cable to plug the router into your existing LAN card :)

Okay here's the thing, I got my wireless set up in the house then boogered it when I tried to allocate a network key to my work laptops mac address.

Using a USR5462 router and now I can't seem to log back into the routers config page and the drivers don't work. Any ideas anyone?

What drivers don't work? For your laptop's wireless card?

See if there is a reset button on the router, usually on the back and needs to be pressed with a pen or similar.

It's the wireless card that doesn't want to connect. It's all configured, the settings match but when I try to connect using it it doesn't work. I've got everything else working after some work yesterday. I'm managing to connect using a USB stick thing but the connection rate can be erratic.

I'm going to poach the IT bod from the office during the week and get him to come up and have a look at it. The other thing I need to get him to explain to me is the WEP settings as, at the moment, my network is unsecured.
