[EDIT]

BTW Does anyone else find that they can play the riff ok every week, but then can't play it when it comes to actually recording it?

It takes me practically as long to record my best stab at a song as it does to learn it in the first place...

Lol yeah i know what you mean :D

I am playing fine ..so i think i,ll record it..then i end up with about 20 versions and finally pick the best..i think it,s sorta nerves and the fact that you sort of have top start straight away :)

I deleted 15 versions this morning of this riff ..some were absolutley terrible :)

Sounding good mate. I'm having a real case of not being able to play today, it's like my fingers won't do what I want them to... I dunno if it's the heat and humidity or lack of sleep or what :(

It happens to me too mate. I play it through perfect, and as soon as I hit record, i become more self concious, and end up making mistakes.

EDIT: Also, in the tab you posted, the 5 to 7 is a hammer on, the 10 to 7 is a pull off. If you're trying to pick these notes (and more power to you if you can) it could throw your rhythm off.

OK here's mine :D

Holy Wars.. The Punishment Due - Icebus

Recorded through a Fender Strat, bridge and mid pickups into a Marshall DSL401 (EQ all at 10 with scooped mids) then a SB Audigy Platinum.

Sorry for the huge delay in getting mine up, but this isn't your average easy riff :D Let me know what you think btw!

Sounds good there IceBus mate.

I'm going to have to post my apologies. I've not had a chance to learn this due to a busy last week and I have a lot of stuff to organise to try and sort out where my life is going so I may not be able to sit down and learn anything for a week or two.

Sorry guys.

Bigpops, don't worry even though I'm not a Megadeth fan I'm determined to learn how to play that :bg:

I wish i had recoreded my attempt at the second riff,if i get time i probably will :)

But i am going to perservere with it......a i,ve almost got it ...but then i havnt lol.

All the right notes are there Icebus, and not a bad speed. A couple of months of casual practice and you'll be able to play it in your sleep.

Maybe you should work on the sound. It sounds a bit more like Hendrix style fuzz than balls out distortion, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks guys. I think I pushed the gain too far and end up with mush instead of cutting metal distortion - another problem is I find it hard to get that fat sound with single coils. Another thing is, I record from the emulated speaker out, and it really gives a crap quality sound. I think I'm going to have to invest in a mic at some point and mic my amp. I sometimes wish I'd gone the Boss GT6 route for sheer recording quality :|

Ahh, that explains it then. I was thinking they sold you dud marshall for a while. You should be able to get a decent sound out of the bridge pickup on it's own, as long as you keep the treble under control.

For the record, my efforts were recoded with my PRS, with bridge humbucker, through the GT6, which was set as follows.

Patch name "Fully cranked"

Preamp: Marshall hi-gain. Bass 100, middle 100, treble 100, presence 100, cab = original,
Reverb: a little bit :)

Then from the digital out into the s/pdif in on my SBLive Platinum 5.1

Icebus, you may get better results from the line-out, but it may be a bit trebly.

Thanks for the help mate. I'm thinking of maybe going the Digital modeller route. I've been hearing good things about the Behringer V-amp 2... Quick question, can you do a normal effects chain, with a modeller last in the chain before the PC (using the modeller for cab simulation alone) and get a decent sound?

Icebus m8..all my efforts were done with a Vamp 2 staight into my pc.

It,s very good once you mess around, the only thing i,d say is it,s slightly noisy, but it,s just a case of playing with the noise gate.

Sounds beter than the line out on my marshall head anyhow :)

Cool mate, it'd definately be worth going for then... If I ever have money again that is! I've heard that the clean sounds on the V amp aren't as good as the disto... What do you think?

I havnt really played about with it that much. But the clean valve amp setting sounds really nice ....but it,s not that digital sparkly type sound, but thats not to say you cant get it....there,s lot,s of parameteres.

Once i get a midi cable so i can use the software i,m sure it will be better :)

I think he might be busy with Greenday, should I post my choice and he can do next week? BTW That is if everyone else is finished with the Megadeth riff :)
