Laffs?

Laffs isn't so much of a problem if we make an effort to moderate it; but I don't think that we should really need to in the first place. There are various options:

1) the rating system. This was introduced and very underused. It may also encourage a set genre of jokes based on the people who use it, meaning other types of humour are overlooked?

2) people can post new threads in Laffs but not reply to them, like in The Noticeboard.

3) we take a more active role in cleaning up Laffs so that the real jokes stay and don't get clouded over by the discussion of them.

4) there isn't much of a problem since people only read Laffs to read the jokes; once they've read the first post, there's nothing else to see. I know some people continue with more related jokes afterwards, and so perhaps these could be in new threads and split by the Agents if necessary.

I think that the idea of making Laffs similar to the Noticeboard is a good one. People can post but not reply.

I don't see any real need to reply to a joke other than to acknowledge it.

Yep, I'll bring it back and we'll continue to discuss the best to approach things, since I do agree that some sort of response is productive in gauging good/bad jokes - we may try the rating system again, although I'll cut down the size of the actual table so it's not so intrusive.

Nay, nay. What I meant was that this thread was cut off the tail end of the Well? thread we have several months ago, but I personally don't think there's anything wrong with the way Laffs is operating at the moment. So question 1 is whether it could be improved in any way, and question 2 is how to improve it. I wasn't commenting on today's conversations.
