Full DTS setup (minus screen) for £300-400

Post by Kajun »

What would you choose if you had just £300-400 to spend on:
  • DVD player (CDRW readable, nothing else needed)
  • Receiver (DD+DTS)
  • Active sub
  • Smallish centre/surround
  • Small-medium front
  • Speaker cable
We aren't worried about CD playback here, it's purely geared as an AV rig. Interconnects are sorted.

Cheers!

I have been advised either get a Sony all in one or might be able to get a respectable setup Pioneer setup from Richer Sounds for that budget!

Was looking at Pioneer separates fae Richer actually. Sony can GTF, I hate them and they will die, and so will all-in-ones. Ahaha. Thanks, you're welcome.

One of the Sony all in ones got 5 stars in what Hi-Fi so it can't be that bad! But then again it is a Sony!

I just have serious issues with the built quality of Sony's portable range. Granted that doesn't reflect on the home cinema market, but I also don't like their logo.

Can't fault my Sony kit TBH. Not into 54 thousand speaker home cinema jobs though. I prefer a big beefy amp and a pair of Mission floorstanders.

Went for a Sony receiver + speaker package in the end, much to my chagrin. It ended up being cheap and small. Preferred the old Kenwood receiver but it had a passive sub, which wasn't much cop. It also exploded, which is never a good thing.

Warning: do not attempt to lug an amp and 6 speakers down 1 km of pavement on your own!

Thanks for your advice which I intended to ignore and in the end accepted. :P
